Orchard Equipment

Professional Orchard Equipment and Pruning Solutions

Rinieri specializes in high-quality, innovative Orchard Equipment designed to meet the rigorous demands of modern farming, from precision pruning to ecological weed management. Our range of specialized tools, especially our Orchard Pruner and Orchard Trimmer lines, is engineered for superior performance, making them the essential choice for growers focused on efficiency and sustainable practices.

Mechanical pruning, often referred to as "hedging and topping," uses specialized cutting bars mounted on a powerful tractor-mounted arm to shape the tree canopy. This method dramatically cuts labor time and costs while maintaining the consistent, managed tree shape essential for maximizing sunlight penetration and preparing the trees for automated harvesting. The core mechanism involves one or more cutting bars, oriented vertically or horizontally, equipped with rotating saw discs (for heavy wood) or oscillating sickle bar blades (for light wood). The bar is manipulated by a heavy-duty hydraulic arm, controlled precisely by a proportional joystick from the safety of the tractor cab. The operator guides the cutting bar along the tree row, executing both side cuts (hedging) and upper cuts (topping) in one or two efficient passes.

Rinieri build different models of orchard equipments for pruning:

  • For traditional, large-canopy olive trees that require high reach and heavy cutting power (branches up to Dia. 6 inches), the ORSX (Orchard Pruner with Discs) is the industry standard. With a vertical reach of around 600cm (236in) and large 24-inch (60 cm) saw discs, it is ideal for traditional, "V" type, or mono-cone groves.
  • For high-density (HD) and super high-density (SHD) olive orchards built for machine harvesting, consider the ORP (Orchard and Trees Pruner with Discs) or the CRF X (Pruning Machine with Discs). The CRF-X is optimized for high-density systems up to 400cm high (157,5 in) , while the ORP handles various systems, cutting wood up to Dia. 4 inches (10 cm).

The cutting capacity varies by the type of head:

  • Saw Disc Pruners (e.g., ORSX, ORT): These heavy-duty tools are built for thick, woody branches, capable of cutting up to Dia. 6 inches (15 cm). This capacity is vital for the substantial annual or biennial cuts in established traditional groves. The ORP and CRF X models are rated for branches up to Dia. 3-4 inches. (7,5-10 cm)
  • Sickle Bar Blade Pruners (e.g., ORPL, CRF 2): These are used for maintenance pruning, tackling green and lighter wood up to Dia. 1.6 inches (4 cm).

Precision Pruning: The Rinieri Orchard Pruner and Trimmer

Pruning is vital for controlling tree growth, stimulating healthy branches, preventing disease, and promoting high-quality fruit production. Rinieri offers versatile solutions to replace manual labor with speed and precision.

Orchard Pruner Models for Every Need:

  • For Annual Pruning (Green and Light Wood): The Finger Bar Cutter and sickle bar models are ideal for lighter, annual cuts on branches up to Dia. 2.5 inches (up to Dia. 3 inches for the heavy-duty ORSL). The ORCHARD PRUNER ORSL uses heavy-duty sickle-cutting bars, perfect for annual maintenance.

  • For Heavy-Duty Pruning (Semi-Annual/Biennial): For more intensive work, the disc pruners are essential. Models like the ORCHARD PRUNER ORSX feature saw discs that can cut branches up to Dia. 4 inches (or up to Dia. 6 inches for the heavier ORSX version).

Compatibility, Technology, and Acquisition

Can orchard tools be mounted on compact tractors?

Many Rinieri tools, including some lighter pruning units are designed with a Category 1 or 2, 3-point hitch coupling, making them compatible with smaller to medium-sized tractors. However, for largest pruners, you may need an independent hydraulic kit (available as an option or already included in some) if your compact tractor cannot supply the required oil flow of approximately 8 to 21 GPM (Gallons Per Minute) or the necessary hydraulic outlets.

Can orchard equipment be adjusted for tree spacing?

Our pruners and trimmers feature hydraulic adjustments—such as hydraulic lifting, tilting, and side shifting—that allow the operator to set the angle and position of the cutting bar precisely for different row spacings and tree canopy shapes (V-type, mono-cone, high density). The parallelogram system on some pruners, ensures the angle of cut remains constant even as the arm is moved up or out.

What PTO requirements do orchard tools need?

Most hydraulic Rinieri tools, such as our pruners, do not rely on the tractor's PTO to power the cutting heads directly. Instead, they require the PTO to power an independent hydraulic kit (pump, tank, cooler) that we supply as standard or an option, which then provides the necessary oil flow and pressure to the cutting motors. This system ensures consistent cutting power regardless of engine RPM.

Technology and Automation

Rinieri offers Kit 4.0 Precision Farming as an option for many machines. Orchard Equipment 4.0 (or Smart Farming Tools) integrates advanced technology to improve efficiency and record-keeping. The Kit 4.0 includes a satellite GPS device for localization, on-board sensors for data control (oil temperature, pressure, motor turns, plant counter), and an online platform for data visualization, reports, and diagnostics. The Kit 4.0 enables the use of our equipment with precision farming systems by collecting and transmitting valuable operational data.

Sustainability, Maintenance, and Acquisition

How do I maintain orchard tools during off-season? Simple practices ensure longevity:

  • Lubricate pivots and grease points every 25 working hours (as recommended for the ORS).
  • Replace hydraulic oil filters annually.
  • Store equipment properly under cover to protect hydraulic components and electrical parts from the elements.

How often do I need to sharpen blades in orchard equipment?

For pruners, the need to sharpen or replace is based on the cutting head: sickle bar teeth and blades should be inspected and sharpened as needed to maintain cutting efficiency, while the saw discs on models like the ORSX are extremely durable and typically require replacement only after years of heavy use.
